How Airbus, after its brilliant tour de force in 2014 — winning government and industry backing for an Airbus-backed next-generation Ariane 6 rocket against a competing European government design — found itself in such a messy struggle is a story still being played out.
TOULOUSE, France (Airbus Safran Launchers PR) — With “Maturity Gate 6.1”, Airbus Safran Launchers and its industrial partners have passed a major milestone in the development of Ariane 6, under contract with the European Space Agency (ESA).
Airbus Safran Launchers, the company set up exactly one year ago to build the new rocket, is in the process of pulling together its subcontractors.
CEO Alain Charmeau said rapid progress was being made on the project.
ESA will ask the governments where the winning are located to invest in Ariane 6 according to the participation of their domestic industry.
The final decision is expected during the next conference of ESA ministers, in late 2014.
